About YISSEM

The Yonsei Institute of Sports Science and Exercise Medicine (YISSEM) is a leading research institution in sports medicine and exercise science, recognized globally for its excellence in sports injury prevention, treatment, and health promotion.

Established in 2014 as a collaboration between Yonsei University’s Wonju College of Medicine and the Institute of Sports Science and Research Lab, YISSEM stands as Asia’s first and only IOC Research Centre for the Prevention of Injury and Protection of Athlete Health.

Key Milestones

  • 2015 : Selected as one of 11 global IOC Research Centres by the International Olympic Committee (IOC).
  • 2015–2026 : Designated for three consecutive terms, underscoring its commitment to elite athlete performance enhancement, injury prevention, and sports science innovation.
  • 2018 : Played a pivotal role during the PyeongChang Winter Olympics as an official medical partner, treating over 2,000 athletes.
